Canadians’ apparent apathy towards online privacy may be rooted in simple ignorance, according to the Canadian Internet Registration Authority. The Globe and Mail | Verizon-Vodafone deal casts doubt on Verizon’s Canadian entry
Verizon Communications Inc. could put its Canadian expansion plans on the shelf to focus on buying out its British partner and taking full control of its U.S. wireless business. New York-based Verizon is in talks to buy the 45-per-cent stake in Verizon Wireless owned by Vodafone Group PLC. The deal is expected to cost as much as $130-billion (U.S.), the Wall Street Journal reported, which would make it one of the biggest acquisitions of all-time. Read More…

(Last week the NYTimes website was hacked) To understand the attack, it’s important to understand three key entities on the Internet: 1) registries; 2) registrars; and 3) recursive DNS providers. NYTimes.com is under the .com top level domain (TLD). The registry for that TLD is Verisign.
